Making of Europaviertel
A photographic documentation

With Frankfurt's Europaviertel, the metropolis on the river Main has gained a new urban district. Aurelis Real Estate is the land owner and district developer of the Europaviertel West, the area west of the Emser Brücke. On an area of around 670,000 square metres, the Europaviertel provides a new place to work and live for some 13,000 people. Since 2013, acre has been supporting Aurelis in the development of the Europaviertel with communication and infrastructure measures. The book series Unseen has been capturing moods in the Europaviertel for eight years and documents in honest and whimsical snapshots how a new piece of the city grows month after month, year after year. When acre created the first edition of Unseen, large parts of the area were still a wasteland and much of what exists today was nothing but a mere vision. A lot has happened since then and what is probably Frankfurt's most progressive quarter is now closer to its completion than its beginnings. With an attentive eye and a mixture of subtle reportage and timeless architectural photography, Unseen captures special moments in the development of a city quarter. The images document the fascination of change, the metamorphosis in the middle of the city. The books Unseen 1-8 show where the Europaviertel came from and how it will be one day. They show the beautiful, the humorous, the absurd, the ephemeral, the new and the poetry in the mundane, simply the entire spectrum of people’s activity in the city.

All colours

On our photographic forays through the Europaviertel, we see this new piece of the city through a different lens. Here, its complexity and richness of colour are revealed to us – where the new district has already grown and where it is reinventing itself.

Unseen

Sometimes it’s just good to walk through the world with your eyes open. Above all, in Frankfurt’s Europaviertel. Parallel to all the calculations, life awakens here: Layers are breaking open, man, machine and matter are working hand in hand, digging up, going deep, piling up and creating the basis for future life here.
